  • zaktan'en
    "A true neutral pack."
Hidden deep within the sanctity of the Garuga Mountains, stand the wolves of Zaktan'en. Founded during the year 300 UE, they serve as a sacred order devoted to the guardianship and preservation of the realm. They are true neutral in their politics, and stand to act as the last and final defense for those in need. Where since antiquity, under the sage and judicious reign of the Dragon Warriors, they have seen the scales of justice rule supreme. Governed by dragon scripture, they are bound by oath to serve and protect all creatures, no matter their pedigree or past crimes. They strive to achieve balance; a natural order where peace and prosperity coincide. Forever may they stand to clash the hammer of justice upon the realm — til' sea swallows all.

  • THE LAW
The laws of Zaktan'en are a sacred vow. All wolves, no matter what rank, are required to follow them and are subject to punishment deemed fit should they not.

    1. Mates must first be approved by the Emperor or Empress. A marriage ceremony is not required, but optional.
    2. Our law is ancient; written in stone by dragonkind. Any changes to our laws or customs must be unanimously agreed upon by all members of the Sultanae and Dragon Generals. If even one does not agree, the law remains.
    3. Pups born out of unauthorized mates or rape are stripped from their mother upon birth and placed with a surrogate or den mother until the parents undergo a trial by court. If both parents are found guilty, depending on the severity of the situation, one or both are either exiled, put to death, or demoted to omega. If neither parent is able to claim the pup/s they become orphans. Traditionally the Emperor/Empress will adopt all orphans, but there have been some known to not partake in this at all.
    4. At the Coming-of-Age (1 year old), wolves are to be brought by their mentor before the Alphas, Arbiter, Imperial Heir, and Dragon Generals to be looked over and welcomed into the pack as official members who will soon choose a path to follow under.
    5. Challenges and fights are welcomed for any reason, however killing a wolf during these events is strictly prohibited. A member of the royalty tier must be notified beforehand or the combatants are subject to punishment.
    6. Only wolves of the Sultanae tier, as well as the Dragon Generals are allowed to accept wolves within the ranks of Zaktan'en. Any other ranking wolf is required to escort those within the premises to a higher ranking official where they may be evaluated and questioned.
    7. Respect between high and low ranking wolves within the pack should be mutual. We're a family and should treat each other as such. Any feuds or heated debates should be brought to the attention of a member in the royalty tier.
    8. Any wolves of hostile nature with Zaktan'en are to be captured on the spot and brought back to the Alphas alive and unharmed, if able. Wolves who capture our enemies shall be commemorated for their services and those captured will be subject to imprisonment or death by order of the Council.
    9. Wolves who are taken prisoner within the walls of Zaktan'en are given a trial by court. The entire pack will gather at the Great Hall to watch the convicted stand trial. The Sultanae and the Council sit at the head of everyone and face the crowd/convicted while he or she is subjected to harsh questioning and accusations from the pack. The prisoner has a right to defend themselves and prove the accusations against them false, but the result is chosen by majority of the pack.
  • LANGUAGE
    The Sacred Tongue
Zaktan'en will use JR Tolken's Elvish language as their native tongue/dragon language. This language is not referred as Elvish IC, but rather "Lhûg" (Dragon) or "glaur" (sacred tongue). Wolves in Zaktan'en learn this language through the written scripture within the Great Stone Halls. The scripture is listed as the teachings of dragons of old to which many scholars within the Lion's Guard work towards completely translating so their wolves may better learn to find true balance. Wolves of Zaktan'en are taught at early ages that this language is sacred and should only be used sparingly. Most prefer to use it during use of magic to conjure it by it's "true" name.

    Common Phrases
"Light Bearer guide you." — May Asura guide you on your trip/journey. Usually said before a wolf sets off on a pilgrimage or long journey.

"Isthanos keep you." — Usually used in times of dire importance or war time, although is also said to wolves on their death beds. Isthanos is the goddess of destruction & recreation dualy. Therefore, they believe her to be the paver of new roads. So roughly it means they wish a swift, painless death or safe travels.

"Til' sea swallows all." — An expression used by Zaktan'en during any of their ceremonies as a sign of respect and reminder of their oath to uphold peace, justice, and order until the ocean rises, swallowing all land, and they are no more.

    CUSTOMS
    The Sending
A funeral ritual in which the deceased wolf is placed on a woven bed of logs surrounded by Jasper's Bane & Golden Sephirus. They are then sent off into the Aegis River before the wooden raft is set aflame by shots of fire evocation being shot at long range. This is traditionally performed by a Vanguard or Tracker. It is considered a great honor to be chosen to set the raft aflame. The Azure and Amber Dragons often chant an ancient hymn to lift the spirit's essence up into the skies to join into the aether.
    First Flight
A ritual in which those under the Paths of the Warrior and Ages undergo the taming of their first dragon. Those who are able to tame a dragon are considered to be powerful & well respected individuals as it is not often dragons are seen roaming about. The pack stands almost at a constant vigil to observe opportunities when they will emerge. To force tame a dragon who does not choose you is usually a tradition held by those who follow the Path of the Warrior, while being patient and waiting for a dragon to choose the individual is commonly practiced by those who follow the Path of the Ages. After the taming is complete the wolves who have tamed their dragons participate in their first flight together.
    Full Moon Festival
Once every year during the winter season when the moon is full the wolves of Zaktan'en gather together to host a masquerade to which all wolves from all over Aspheria are invited to attend. They gather within the Bezael Fjord to observe the leylines in the sky (which only appear that once, when the aether is the most palpible due to the moon's cycle), believing it to be the border between their world and the next. Wolves who attend are encouraged to drape themselves in fancy furs, masks, and jewelry of sorts. It is tradition that the Azure dragon should walk out onto the river and use his/her body as a catalyst to perform a ritual dance. They believe it to return a soul back into the world to be reborn as whatever the fates decide.
    Oath by Blood
This event normally takes place during the Full Moon in the Spring season in which wolves are required to gather at the Stone Vahrot Altar around the Emperor/Empress and expose the napes of their necks to them as a sign of their utmost trust and respect. They devote their lives to the Lion's Guard and are entrusted with the future of the pack. The Alphas may choose to bite down upon the nape of their necks, forcing them to submit further for a greater sign of loyalty, but usually the gesture is accepted as enough proof. Upon completion of this ceremony a wolf is considered a true member of Zaktan'en and are able to join into the Sentinel Creed (Path of the Warrior) or Cloister of Seers (Path of the Ages).

    * This event may take place out of season if there are enough initiates waiting to become members of the Creed or Cloister.

    Ceremony of Roses
A marriage ceremony for any who wish to be wed under the blessing of the Alpha or Shaman of the pack. It will become tradition for all who attend to bring flowers with them and line them down the aisle on either side for when the two who wish to be joined together walk down. Typically red or white roses are brought to symbolize the love, commitment, strength, and purity the two share together, however other flowers common to see during this event are: Azalea's to symbolize the couple honoring and taking care of one another, the Dog Rose to symbolize pain and love conjoined, or the Gladiolus (AKA "Sword Lily") to symbolize strength and determination.
